Sony Mobile NextStep Startup Program

Sony Mobile NextStep Startup Program

This program was created to support people made redundant to run their own startup as a next step in their careers. Over 70 people have attended the program, and over 40 startups have been created. This unique program has included inspirational speakers, networking, and extensive training on startup principles, as well as business and individual coaches. We have done this with great involvement and support from the whole innovation ecosystem in the Greater Copenhagen area.

The Competitions

Two competitions were held at the end of the 6 month NextStep Startup periods, one on March 3rd and one on June 7th.

On Thursday March 3rd 2016, 30 startups met investors from the Greater Copenhagen area. Present were angel investors, representatives for the incubators in the region and also Hiroki Totoki CEO of Sony Mobile and other senior executives from Sony Mobile. All of the startups pitched their business idea to a panel consisting of well-known entrepreneurs and investors. They were competing for prizes such as business mentoring, incubation and innovation trips. Eight of the startups received special recognition and the end the winner was the startup Katam, founded by Krister Tham and Magnus Kåreby, with the business idea ‘Digital Forest Inventory with the Help of Smartphones’.

On June 7th 2016 it was time for the last batch of startups to compete for prizes in front of a crowd of key people from the startup community, Sony Mobile and investors. 3 teams competed for the top prize with the winner being Lisa Bryer with her business idea ‘Grocery Analytics’. Keynote speakers were well know figures in the Greater Copenhagen area Tine Thygesen and Hampus Jakobsson.
